Hanshi Daly

Tom Daly graduated from Dowling College in Oakdale, NY and later received a Master of Professional Studies in criminal justice from C.W. Post University in Brookville, NY. . Tom was a first responder on 9ll and spent most of the first 7 days there. Following retirement from the police department after 34 years (Helicopter Police Officer Pilot for 32 years), Tom returned to Dowling as the Dean of Aviation and later as the Dean of Students.

In 2013, Tom was promoted to 9th Degree Black Belt in the Chinese Goju Association at the Malverne School of Self Defense, a martial arts school he has owned for 45 years. In addition to martial arts training, Tom is a safety advocate and lecturers in different types of safety both personal and safety in the workplace.

He is a racing enthusiast and holds records at Bonnerville Salt Flats, Utah and Loring, Maine (LTA) in cars and on motorcycles. Tom currently resides on Long Island with his wife and four children.

Kate Britt

Kate started practicing karate at the age of 10, and quickly rose through the ranks to achieve black belt at the age of 14. Along with karate, she plays golf and soccer. She also competes in crossfit. Kate was recently promoted to Nidan (2nd degree black belt) before leaving for college.

Scott Gramlich started his martial arts training at the Malverne School of Self Defense in 2007. A musician of 35 years, he is married and has a daughter who is starting her own training at the dojo. Scott is the owner of SG Custom Sound in Douglaston where he builds, repairs and installs audio systems.

My name is Kim Gee. I started Karate in 1972 at the age of 14. I was in NYC at New York Karate Academy under Aaron Banks the style of Goju Ryu for 10 years. I began studying Chinese Goju in 2006 at the Malverne School of Self Defense under Hanshi Tom Daly. My interest is hang gliding as my hobby and hoping to fly off a mountain and soar like an eagle for hours on end. My career is in the computer service industry since 1986.

Sensei Santora is a father and a lawyer. His practice is in Lynbrook and the website is JohnSantoa.com. Hisoldest son Lucas is an upper brown belt. His younger son Ian is a black belt. You will find parent/cdhild black belts in only the most long standingdand family friendly dojos. Malvern School of Self Defensedhas had four suchparent/child combinations.

Michael Schwartz has over 30 years of Martial Arts training. Although he was born in Manhattan, he has been a Long Island resident for most his life. Michael is a Hofstra University graduate and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Michael is the owner of an import/export business based in Suffolk County, a three-generation family owned business. He is married with two children and two dogs.

Ian Santora has been a black belt since 2017. He is presently attending the University at Buffalo and is majoring in English and Philosophy. On school breaks he works at his fathers law firm. He has attended the Malverne School of Self Defense since he was five years old. Ian is a skilled musician and an Eagle Scout, and partly attributes his achievements to the discipline and focus gained from The Malverne School of Self Defense.

Kaitlyn Mantel

Kaitlyn started at the Malverne School of Self Defense at the age of 5, and strove to be the best fighter she could be. Throughout her many years with us, she has worked very hard in order to earn her black belt which she achieved at the age of 14 and has since become an excellent teacher to our students. She now is a Nursing Student at Molloy College heading into her senior year. Kaitlyn says she is thankful for all the amazing years here at the Malverne School of Self Defense, as well as the lessons she learned in self defense, discipline, and respect, which helped shape her into the woman she is today.
